Kays Kitchen: Strawberry Shortcake

7/28/15

Kays Kitchen is back (with some lost files) and although strawberry picking season is over, its not too late to enjoy a quick and easy treat.  Strawberries are amazing - and whats great about them is that they are even more amazing with some sugar, laid over a piece of cake, and topped with whipped cream.  Although I did not make the cake (because I would probably burn it).  I do have a super easy recipe on how to create your own whipped cream.  Do not be fooled its probably one of the easiest things but people will be impressed that you even put in the effort to feed them.

what you will need:

large bowl (chilled) - heavy whipping cream - sugar - electric mixer

so your first step is to chill the bowl that you are using.  I prefer to use a metal bowl because I find that it stays cooler longer but use any bowl that you have.  Then pour a cup of heavy whipping cream into the bowl and add a tablespoon of sugar (I usually add more because I like it sweet... ).

Here comes the hardest part - use an electric mixer to whip the cream and sugar together.  Whip the contents until hard peaks are about to form (English: basically whip the cream and sugar until it holds a form)

yes, its that easy.

To prepare strawberries I add sugar and water to a bowl and let them chill in the fridge for an hour or two.

whip, whip, whip, whipwhip- whip it real good.

lace shorts & olive shirt

7/27/15

I purchased these shorts as soon as spring started and have not worn them until this past week.  I was going to get them altered to have the perfect fit but I am a procrasinator and there is only a month left of summer so I will suck it up and continue to pull these up each time I wear them.  I am starting to think that I should accually stop shopping...

That will never happen, but I am thinking about it so that is a start.

I have such a strange habit of saving items of clothing - this needs to stop.  At the end of each season I end up with too many items never worn with the tags still attached (how sad is that).  While these clothes sadly hand in my closet untouched I continue to purchase more and more items witch amounts to even more unworn pieces.  Whatever I can return I do - but there is a good amount I endup sitting on until I give it away or donate it.

This past week I finally starting posting my lightly used or unworn items on the app Polyvore!  Two pairs or shoes already sold and it is such a relief to get rid of some of the items that I wore one or two times! If you do not already have the app sign up with the code HPUEG to receive a free $5 credit!

happy shopping & selling,

palm everything

7/18/15

Im not even going to try to describe my love for palm print right now.  It is clearly the print of the moment and from scarfs, to shorts, to pillows & even my phone case - I am palm print crazy.  Will someone please tell me why this just became a thing!?  I am a lover of prints by nature.  Every here and there I try to tone it down a bit by sticking with neutrals but I always go back.

I do have to admit that this palm print madness is only a fad and that it will pass so most of the items I have bee purchasing in this print are not quality pieces.  This scarf was under $15 at Forever 21 and it light enough to wear in summer (I am guessing this trend will end when the warm weather passes).

apartment hunt

7/16/15

I did not think finding a suitable place to call home would be so hard.  From deciding on an area, to calculating rent, figuring out utilities, and still having money to decorate - I am stumped.  Someone needs to create something that narrows down all the choices, calculates how much money you will have to spend each month, and moves you in without any hassle.  When I started the search I headed to Craigslist... first of all 1/2 of the places do not have pictures posted with them.  I could be scrolling past my dream apartment all because whoever put the post up was too lazy to add a couple of photos.  I do not understand.  How is anyone going to be interested in the space you have up for rent when they have no idea what it looks like?!

I filtered my search to only include posts that have photos.  While scrolling through the 2,000+ 3 bedroom apartments on Craigslist I could not believe that the ones that had photos were filled with clutter, unmade beds, and kitchens filled with dirty dishes - talk about lazy!  These people could not clean up a bit before taking the photo - how am I even going to start to think about spending my hard earned money on a place when it looks like a tornado had blown through it?  How is it possible that out of more than 2,000 apartments posted I only found 6 that I was interested.  On the bright side I found 6... so there's a start.
Out of the 6 that I found one of them seemed to be flawless... so I emailed whomever put up the add and he then told me that the actual rent was $400 more than what was stated in the post - rude.  How can you advertise such an amazing apartment, add pictures, and type out an entire description based on a lie.  These apartment listings should seriously be monitored by some sort of Craigslist police. (don't worry I refrained from giving him a piece of my mind).

All this apartment shit is giving me a headache.

Growing up is a lot of work,
(I will be back with an update)
