How To Wear: The Blanket Scarf

11/16/14

the blanket scarf

It gets so cold here in New England that you are crazy if you do not own a blanket scarf.  They are as warm as they are stylish and is a staple for any fall wardrobe.  This year there are so many places to find blanket scarfs that is is no longer acceptable to now own one!  The best part about them is that they take any outfit from drab to fab in seconds!

The hardest part about a blanket scarf is choosing what way to wear it!  Below is a video showing you three quick and easy ways to style the scarf! Enjoy!

Not Ready For Winter

11/6/14

fall essentials

Although there are only a few weeks left of fall in the North East, I thought I would highlight my fall essentials.  I will wear all of these items through the winter but have been gravitating towards all of them for the past month and a half.

zip detail sweater: a class with a twist, the zipper detail adds flair and style
gingham: a classic, paired under a sweater or tucked into a skirt
chambray: one of the easiest essentials; can be dressed up or down
sweater tunic/dress: easiest for mornings when the snooze button is it a little too much
cape: go-to for days off, comfort & style wrapped in one
striped top: a basic
warm sunglasses: to protect your eyes and complement a warm color pallet
blanket scarf: for those days when it is not cold enough for a jacket but is still a bit chilly
neutral bag: to hold all your shit
comfortable sneakers: because we can't wear heels every day
over the knee boots: because they are sexy
grey skinnies: to offset all the warmer colors that the fall brings
olive cargos: because they go with everything
flirty skirt (in a fun pattern): for those feminine days

An Apple a Day…

10/24/14

or some pumpkins!
I have to admit I went to the apple orchard a while ago…
and I should have uploaded these then,
but, better late than never.

So yes, Max and I (my boyfriend that is) visited the apple orchard.  I was much more impressed with the photos than I was with the apples… perfect fall scene!  I did enjoy a scrumptious apple turnover and managed to bring a few apples home, but the majority of the time there was spent embracing the fall weather (plus there were not many apples left).  Overall it was a great time, it is always nice to get to spend a full day with Max especially if it does not include running errands, food shopping, or cleaning!

While at the orchard I realized 3 things.

1) I could never pick apples for a living (I basically got stuck in a tree)
2) I wish I could bake so I could have an apple turnover for breakfast everyday.
3) I would like to own/grow a pumpkin patch (they are just so festive)

Zip sweater / American Eagle Outfitters jacket / Uniqlo circle skirt / J.Crew suede shoes / Rebecca Minkoff satchel handbag / MARC BY MARC JACOBS leather strap watch / Ray-ban glasses

In my spare time I enjoy creating outfits that I don't have, but wish I did.  This particular outfit is a collaboration of things I have been obsessing over lately.  I surrounded this outfit around the New Balance sneakers and Rebecca Minkoff satchel.  I talked about sneakers in my last post so there isn't too much to explain there.  And for the bag, well, I think it speaks for itself.   The color gray has taken over my usual love for brown and other warm tones and the luxurious look of suede is currently far more appealing to me than leather.

I love the classic but laid back feel of this outfit, and it also pushes me to purchases these sneakers (and pray that my boyfriend sees this, and orders the bag for Christmas).

trendsday: sneakers

9/30/14

This time last year I was obsessing over the Nike sneaker wedges… and while my obsession with those never really ended, I am now obsessed with various other sneakers.  From calf hair, to leather, and sporty, to neon there sneakers out there to fit every style.  They just look so damn effortless.  I do not even know where to start or what to say but there are plenty of reasons that sneakers will be a staple in my wardrobe from here on out…

1. They instantly transform your overdone outfit to a casual "I just threw this on" vibe.
2. They are comfortable, they do not squeeze your baby toe, or cut off the circulation in your feet.
3. They look better with wear (for the most part).  Theres nothing better than a broken in pair.
4. They instantly make you look fun… a girl in fun sneakers obviously is always ready to participate in fun activities…
5. They can be paired with such a wide variety of outfits… please name a pair of pointed flats that you can wear with athletic jeggings and a flirty skirt.

I think I have proved that ultimately sneaker are an essential… if you don't believe me try them out or just view the fabulous photos above, again.

So far I have opted for these (they are on sale), but am falling in love with the look of these

Watercolor Me Fall

9/11/14

I love finding forgotten pieces from past years.  This silk Madewell shirt I was extra excited to bring back.  I am still inlove with the colorful patten as much as I was last fall.  I used the green jeggings to pull the vivid green color from the blended pattern and adding a white blazer sealed it togeather.

Naturally im wearing my favorite flats, and carrying my favortie bag.  I was sceptical albout my natural hair, but surprisingly my locks cooperated.  I find that getting a good natural look comes when you least expect it (I just wish it would cooperate when i'm running late to work).

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Spring Hues

4/10/14

{shirt, jacket (old), zara jeans (old), bag, shoes, necklace, sunglasses}

I am thinking it is safe to put the heavy coat away, but you never know, this is New England.
I don't know if I am happier about blogging again or if I am happier about the weather change?  Needless to say I am euphoric about breaking out lighter layers and having constant feeling in my toes.  This outfit is basic, but that is what I love about spring.  A light button up and colored jeans is timeless.  The color of this top… gorgeous.
Since starting my new job I can no longer wear denim, yes I cried a little (take a look at past posts, 90% denim).  But, it's okay because it pushes me to explore other options.  Spring shopping has been in full effect and although I should be saving I have been looking at some more classic style shirts and pants to accommodate my new dress code.
