basic black romper

7/8/15

romper - Express | vest - Old Navy | shoes - Old Navy | clutch - Marshalls | earrings - Charming Charlies

The summer is in full swing, sadly I have come to realize that there is no such thing as summer vacation and now that I have bills I do have to work and can not spend every weekend at the beach.  I try to fill my days off with some sort of summer activity (it almost always has to do with the beach, or someones pool).  Having a work life balance is important (and much harder than it seems).  As I get older the amount of free time I have diminishes before my eyes.  There are seven days in a week, five out of the seven days of the week are spend working and the other two days are usually filled with errands.  As my mother would say, "that's life".

As much as I enjoy growing up I would enjoy a nice 3 month summer vacation - but that is not going to happen (unless I win the lottery, or somehow find away to marry into the royal family).  I tell myself the harder I work the more likely I will be able to have ample free time in the future, and as long as I keep telling myself that I will make it through these grueling work weeks!

Okay... if you have not yet found a romper this one is a necessity by far.  My legs are pretty long so most rompers are wayyyyy to short!  I do not need my ass hanging out so I usually refrain from purchasing them - this is one that I had to have!  It works great with layers.  I have worn it probably once a week for the past six weeks.  I wish I was wearing it now but it is in the wash so I will have to wait until tomorrow.

I have had this olive vest for over a year and it never fails me.  Olive is a key color in my wardrobe because it works with almost every color and every season.  I need layers no matter what time of year and vests are the best option for summer!  The shoes - Old Navy of course (no I am not sponsored by them) I just keep finding the best items there.  I have been in love with lace up anything so these sandals were a must.

and now I'm off to work,

the striped dress... continued

7/2/15

dress - Old Navy | sweater - Nordstrom (similar, I love this one) | clutch - Franchesca's (similar) | necklace - J.Crew | bracelets - crisscross, white stone | shoes - Hautelook (similar)

One dress, two looks... I already raved about this dress in my last post but here is another outfit idea!  Dressed up or dressed down this dress works for any type of setting for The Forth of July!  I love layers so I find a way for them to work even in the summer.  This dress has such a simple silhouette that it can be paired with a cropped sweater without fail.  For summer layers I make sure the pieces are light enough but adding a sweater on top of a summer dress can change the vibe completely.  The nights are still chilly so adding a sweater over a dress for late night fireworks or a walk on the beach is ideal.

I wish these shoes were still available but I ordered them from Hautelook last summer and can not find the exact pair anywhere!  (I linked a similar pair above)  the ones I linked have a great wedge so they work on grass or other uneven surfaces!  I love the touch of a white shoe against tan skin, and it helps that they go with everything so if you haven't purchased a pair for summer, you should!

Hope everyone has a great Independence Day Weekend
(there will be one more themed post tomorrow)

casual red and white

dress - Old Navy | chambray - Forever 21 (similar) | hat - Old Navy (in store only) | shoes - Marshalls (love these) | bag - Nordstrom Rack (similar) | sunglasses - RayBan

Oh Independence Day weekend... how I wish I could enjoy you!  While everyone is at BBQ's and the beach I will be at work (that retail life).  I could be sour but I am not about that negative life - as long as I get the change to watch some fireworks I will be fine... that is all I really care about anyways!

If your in a pinch for an outfit for this weekend I would highly, highly , highly recommend this dress... it was 8 dollars (in store). Yes, you read that right, this red and white striped dress was eight dollars and it also comes in navy and white stripes and some solid colors!  This dress is perfect for a swim coverup and for layering so even if you have an outfit for this weekend it would be beneficial to grab!  Dresses are my go to because they are so easy to dress up or down.  A simple dress can be layered with a chambray top for an effortless vibe and can also be dressed up if the attire is a bit more put together.  I love comfortable outfits (epically if there is going to be food), this dress will conceal any food baby and is soft enough to sleep in if you happen to have too much to drink (don't act like that never happens).

so enjoy your festivities and if you happen to fall asleep in your dress... thats okay!

errands couture

6/17/15

shorts - Old Navy (they come in any color you could possibly need) | sweatshirt - Loft/ Lou & Gray | espadrilles - Old Navy | sunglasses - Ray Ban | handbag - Rebecca Minkoff (discontinued color)

Now that I'm into this short wearing business, I wear them whenever I can.  These are the perfect shorts for a low key day - the only downside is that they wrinkle easily, but that's no big deal especially for running errands or throwing on over a bathing suit.  Yes I am constantly shopping at Old Navy but they seriously have the best deals for summer clothes.  Summer is only about three months and 5 days out of the week I cant wear shorts regardless so I tend make conscious choices in terms of price.
This sweatshirt is perfect for cooler days and nights, and I love that it has short sleeves.  I will be honest, I have also slept in it... it's just so damn comfortable!  The Loft is another one of my favorite places to shop - their items from Lou & Gray are my holy grail because they are all so practical and season-less!  They also have great items for work that do not break the bank! Back to the sweatshirt - stores tend to be cooler than the temperature outside especially while food shopping!  So, when running errands I like to add something a bit heavier than what I would wear outside,  we have all been in the dairy isle shivering because the outfit planned for the weather outside is nowhere near warm enough for the amount of cold air pumping out of the vents at the supermarket.
