Kayla From the Block

There is something great about getting dressed, portraying a different look - a different story.  Every outfit can set a tone for the day.  I am usually not the sporty type, but there are some days when I wake up feeling like "jenny from the block".  Getting dressed is a form of expression, a work of art.  Some days I feel classy, some simplistic, and others I feel like a 90's video girl (it just depends on the day.  Clothing makes it possible to say how you feel without even speaking.

Most of these items I have had for a while, but there is nothing like a little closet remix.  I love mixing prints in general and with these breezy spring days it was the perfect opportunity to wear this floral jacket.  It is super comfortable and although the exact one is sold out I linked some similar ones below.  It's great to have a couple of fun jackets to throw over simple tanks and dresses, especially for cooler spring and summer nights.

Converse will always be a staple in my wardrobe.  These are my first hightop pair and I love how they give a sporty vibe to any outfit.  I find myself wearing them with jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses (so basically everything).  They are so easy to slide on and this color (papyrus) is not as original as a white or black pair but still works well with everything!

summer shoes under 50

You can be fabulous without breaking the bank!  During the spring and summer I am all about prints and brighter looks so a neutral shoe is needed for looks that are not so neutral.  From sandals, to block heels I have most shoe types covered above and they are all priced to love under 50!

Downtown Chic: Bodycon

3/16/15

I have to admit: I once had a body-con addiction.  Lets face it, plenty of people did (and still do).  Rewind about 4 years to my junior year of high school, body-con was everywhere.   Forever 21 was the body-con mother load.  It was not hard to accumulate a collection of brightly colored body-con items that were too tight and too short (yes mom, I am admitting to my mistakes)...  Fast forward to what I would like to barely call adulthood, body-con has been replaced with trend after trend... but I will never fully give it up (still holding on).  Yes, they can ride up without notice. Yes, you can see every roll that may or may not exist on your body.  But, they will always be so easy to dress (and it will most likely always fit) ...
Take this outfit for example: start with a body-con dress, add a leather jacket, sneakers, and a scarf (or substitute for a necklace) and ta-DA, outfit complete!  Dress it up, dress it down, add a sweater, or a jacket, or a skirt and instantly you are ready to go.

Bright Sweater + Vest Weather

12/31/13

The holidays have ended and as the new year approaches we have had some ugly weather.  It's okay though because rainy days are perfect for movies!  This past Sunday was a gloomy one.  I brightened it up with a pink sweater and cream vest (that I have been loving).  This Old Navy vest is a keeper!  I had been lusting over the J. Crew vests that everyone and their mother owns but when i found this similar one at Old Navy for... 20 flipping dollars I jumped at the chance (and should probably go pick up a few more).  Since it was raining, I wanted something dark on bottom.  This jeggings are also from Old Navy and were so affordable.  Old Navy has seriously stepped their game up, the fit of the jeans are amazing, now I know why I have seen them on so many other blogs (they are the rockstar cut).

This seriously look alike bag was a major find at No Rest for Bridget.  Working at a clothing store is detrimental to my wallet but this baby was only $35 and I needed it.  I have wanted a Rebecca Minkoff  bag for three years and counting.  First of all the red color is amazing and second of all it was only 35 flipping dollars!  Who could pass that up?  If you haven't seen these bags you should check them out, here.  After wearing this look alike around for a couple of days i can confidently say that I would much rather a smaller size.  Some good came out of buying an almost knockoff bag (I prefer not calling them knockoffs, more like tester bags before a big purchase).

It is also important to have a cute umbrella!

Cute Comfort

10/5/13

I went a little overboard with the pictures of this outfit.  But, what can I say, I am obsessed with the location and am so glad I found it.  It was fun to shoot a comfortable weekend outfit, expically since i love my chucks, and this hat (or any other hat to be honest).

Everyone needs one pair of jeans that are comfortable, cute, and okay to wear to whatever they call for (even sitting on soaking wet cement).  These jeans are those jeans for me!  I have worn them out, to work, while, camping, to a Red Sox game, and while nannying.  They are perfect.

Next, this hat is too cute for words.  I gave into it at J Crews 30% off sale a couple of weeks ago, and its such a fun trend to work with.  Although I wore it with a low-key outfit here, in the future I have unique plans for this hat.  Its simple, yet such a statement.
